This past weekend, I finally organized our basement food stores. All the empty canning jars went on a new shelf, and they were organized by size. It helps to see what we sizes we have, and what is needed. I also created a space on one of the shelves for all of the new items that will be canned or dried later in the summer. (Quite a few of the jars are actually used for frozen items also, like stock).
I also organized our leftovers from last year. I realized that we have a tendency to save some of our favorites. This year, I'm really going to make an effort to dig in. I'm also going to make less pickles. (I planted half the amount of cucumbers - that should help with the problem). I've found that everything "pickled" really just tastes like a pickle. Therefore, there will be less pickling this year.
I also think I might invest in a few more weck jars. They seal just as well, and they make gorgeous homemade gifts.
