Last night, I came home from my knitting group to find 3 fig trees in my driveway! One of my parents' neighbors collects fig trees. He has at least 50 or so on a little trolley that he rolls in and out of his garage in accordance with the seasons. Apparently, he's originally from Sicily, and figs are a very popular Sicilian food. At any rate, my parents were gifted two fig trees from him this past fall, and a few days ago, he gave them three more for me. I'm extremely delighted. Two of the fig trees already have tiny figs growing on them.
The trees are three different varieties - Chico Strawberry, Hardy Chicago, and Sal's Gene strain. I can't wait to do a taste test. As soon as I have enough, I'll be making Marisa's sticky fig jam
.
Honestly, plants are my favorite gift. I always know what to do with a plant!
